The Astrological Association of Great Britain (AA) was formed at 7.22 pm GMT on 21 June 1958 in London.[2] Its founding members, notably John Addey and Roy Firebrace, were members of the Astrological Lodge of the Thesosophical Society.[3] John Addey would later become President of the AA. [4]
The objectives of the AA are the advancement of education of the public by the critical study of astrology in all its branches; to encourage and draw together all students of astrology; to enlarge and integrate the knowledge of astrology; to co-ordinate and publish results as desirable and generally work for the more widespread understanding of astrology as an art and science (astrology is the practice of relating heavenly bodies to lives and events on earth, and the traditions that have thus been generated). [5]
The AA produces four publications - the Journal, published six times a year, Correlation, an academic biannual journal on astrological research; the Medical Astrology Newsletter, the only journal in the world devoted to Medical astrology, and Culture and Cosmos, an academic journal on the history of astrology and cultural astronomy.[6]
The AA also organises occasional seminars on all aspects of astrology, as well as an annual conference.[7]
In 2002 membership of the AA was 'something over a thousand'. [8]
